What are dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that replace one, a few, or a whole row of missing teeth. They’re customized to fit your bite, match your gum hue, and blend in with your natural tooth color.

Dentures are an alternative to dental implants. They typically last 5-7 years, even longer with good care.

What types of dentures do you offer?

Affordable Dental East offers several types of dentures:

Partial dentures

If you’re missing just one or a few teeth, Dr. Mohrman can fit you for partial dentures. Partial dentures feature a metal frame that supports pink plastic gums that match your natural coloring and a series of false teeth positioned to fit your smile.

Complete dentures

If you’ve lost an entire upper or lower row of teeth, complete dentures replace them. They consist of pink plastic gums and a whole row of false teeth placed on a metal base shaped like a horseshoe.

What is involved in getting dentures?

When you determine that dentures are right for you, plan on scheduling at least two visits to have them customized and placed.

At your first visit, Dr. Mohrman performs a thorough oral exam and takes a series of X-rays. He also takes a digital scan of your mouth and sends it to a dental lab to manufacture your dentures. You’re given a set of temporary dentures in the meantime.

When the lab completes your customized dentures, you return to the office to try on your replacement teeth. Dr. Mohrman adjusts your dentures to ensure a comfortable fit. He also teaches you how to clean and care for them.

How do I clean my dentures?

Taking care of your dentures is simple. When you remove them to sleep, rinse them in cool tap water and brush them using a soft-bristle toothbrush. You may also remove them after meals or snacks to prevent the buildup of bacteria.

Overnight, soak your dentures in water or denture solution to discourage the buildup of plaque. Thoroughly brush your gums and tongue twice a day too; it’s still possible to harbor bacteria in your mouth even if you don’t have teeth.
